pattern

An optional variable herald used with pattern variables. Once a pattern variable has been declared, pattern behaves and is used much the same way as the shelf-types counter, stream and switch.

pattern is not optional when it is used with the built-in pattern variables:

• class
• message
• additional-info
• recovery-info
• file-name
• line-number
