function

tan

Library: Trigonometry (OMTRIG)
Import: omtrig.xmd
Return type: opaque

Returns: The tangent of a floating point number.

Declaration

export external float function
     tan value float x

Purpose

Use tan to calculate the tangent of an angle in radians. The angle must be a floating point number. This trigonometric function works the same way as its equivalent in the C math library.

Out-of-range values return "not a number" (NaN).

Example:

  import "omtrig.xmd" unprefixed
  import "omfloat.xmd" unprefixed
  process
     output "The tangent of pi/3 is "
         || "d" % (tan (pi / 3))
         || " %n"
  ; Output: "The tangent of (pi/3) is 1.732050807568877"
