Declaration

  define external source function Big5-input-file
                  value stream filename
    exceptions-to value io-exception exceptions-to optional


Purpose

This external source function converts a stream of Big Five characters to a stream of UTF-8 characters.

Big 5 is a Chinese character set encoding that specifies 13,494 Chinese characters. It is the most widely used encoding in Taiwan and its name refers to the five companies that collaborated in its development in 1984.

Arguments:

Example:

  set my-buffer to Big5-input-file "test.dat" exceptions-to e

  do when get-exception-status e != 0
     put #error "Error " || "16r8fzud" % get-exception-status e || "occurred. %n"
  done
