Travel Guide to ParisClassroom NotesCourses take place at our offices and commence at 9:00 am daily. Classes end at 5:30 pm every day except the final day, when classes conclude at 5:00 pm. Computers are available for course exercises during class time. One computer for every two students is provided. You are welcome to bring along your laptop if you prefer to work by yourself. Electronic course materials will be made available for PC platforms. If you need to make telephone calls during the course, please be sure that you have a mobile telephone of your own. Regrettably, we cannot permit outside calls from our offices. We provide coffee, but not meals, during breaks. There is a cafeteria in the business park, which offers daily lunch specials; payment is by cash only Please remember to make arrangements for transportation to and from your hotel. Normally the hotel will be able to help you with this. We have provided transportation information throughout this guide. ArrivalFirst, the weather. For a five-day forecast for Paris, you can visit Intellicast's WorldWeather site. If you are flying to Paris, you may wish to consult the Air France website, which offers schedules and other helpful information online. If you plan to travel by rail, you can visit SNCF - France's national railway service, UK-based Eurostar, or Thalys - a service provided jointly by the Belgian, French, Dutch, and German railways. Orly is the airport closest to our offices. If you land at Orly and would like to take a taxi to your hotel, you MUST take a banlieue taxi, which goes from suburb to suburb (a Paris taxi will refuse to take you to the suburbs). If you land at Charles de Gaulle, you may take a taxi. Or you may take the Air France bus to Etoile/Porte Maillot - the first stop, then take a taxi from Etoile/Porte Maillot to your hotel.
If you would like to arrange for a taxi to meet you on arrival, we recommend Taxi Laurent Bahier. To reserve their services, send them a fax with details of your arrival: date/time, flight/train number, airline, airport/train station, your name and destination. If your train or plane is late, Taxi Laurent Bahier won't charge extra for the waiting time. For the best rates, mention Stilo. Payment with Visa, Mastercard and Amex are accepted. Taxi Laurent Bahier can be reached by:
AccommodationsIt is your responsibility to book your own accommodations. Please contact the hotels listed below.
An excellent three-star hotel situated 4 km/2.5 miles from our offices in the heart of the countryside. It offers 50 rooms. Features include private telephone, satellite TV, bar and an haute cuisine restaurant. The hotel, which is set on farm property that used to belong to Louis XIV, is surrounded by a two-hectare park. The surroundings are very peaceful. This hotel is ideal if you are looking for tranquillity or something typically French in both style and setting. To relax after a work day or during a week-end, the "Relais de Courlande" suggests some time at their Beauty and Well-being Space "Balneotherapy". The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle to and from our offices. This is independent of Stilo, and arrangements for its use are to be made directly by the course participant.
The IBIS Hotel offers the closest accommodations to Stilo, just a seven minute walk. However, it is not as close to shopping facilities as other hotels. It is low-cost, with minimum service, and somewhat isolated. There is a restaurant inside the hotel. Recommended only for its proximity to Stilo.
The Ibis Hotel Versailles Chteau is situated close to the historical Chateau de Versailles area. It is close to shopping facilities and restaurants/bars. Situated close to the Versailles Rive Gauche train station (one stop after "Chaville Vélizy"), 6.5 km/4 miles from our offices. The area is pleasant. Ideal for combining business, culture and pleasure.
The Sofitel is situated close to the historical Chateau de Versailles area. Four hundred metres from the Chateau entrance, it offers four-star international service with bar and restaurant (French cuisine). Situated close to the Versailles Rive Gauche train station (one stop after "Chaville Vélizy"), 6.5 km/4 miles from our offices. The area is pleasant. Carte Hebdomadaire (Weekly Travel Card) Important notice: Do not forget to bring one passport-like ID photo. The Carte Hebdomadaire itself is free; you pay only for the coupon you choose (ie, weekly, monthly, yearly). If you are staying at a hotel that is not in the immediate vicinity, we recommend you purchase a Carte Hebdomadaire travel card. This pass is available from all subway or train stations. Ask for a "four zone" pass. Once you have paid for the ticket, you may travel as much as you want within the four concentric zones around Paris. It includes access to the Parisian metro and buses, RER train. Our offices are in zone four. Please make sure you are buying a ticket for zone four. If you are thinking of looking around Paris while you are here, the Paris métro (underground) offers a Visit Paris card at preferential rates. Ask for details at any underground station. If your hotel is in downtown Paris, take a train on the RER line C (the yellow one) to "CHAVILLE - VELIZY" station. As an example, "ST-MICHEL" station (in the center of Paris) to "CHAVILLE-VELIZY" station takes about 50 minutes. Not all trains stop at "CHAVILLE - VELIZY", but many do. Check the electronic signs on the platform they will tell you whether or not the incoming train will stop at "CHAVILLE-VELIZY". (As well, trains are coded by four-letter names on the front of the engine, and the ones that stop at "CHAVILLE-VELIZY" are usually called VICK or SLIM). Then take a taxi or bus (see below) to our offices. Please note that all public telephones at the Chaville-Vélizy station are phonecard phones (cabines télécartes). If your hotel is in Versailles, take a train RER C at "VERSAILLES RIVE GAUCHE" station and stop at "CHAVILLE - VELIZY" station. Check the electronic signs on the platform to see if the train is stopping at "CHAVILLE - VELIZY". Then take a taxi or bus (see below) to our offices. If you come from Massy - Palaiseau, take a train RER C at "MASSY - PALAISEAU" station and stop at "JOUY EN JOSAS" station. Then take a taxi or bus (see below) to our offices. If you come from Montparnasse train station, take a suburb train at "GARE MONTPARNASSE" station and stop at "VERSAILLES CHANTIERS" station. It takes about 15 minutes. Then take a taxi to our offices.
From either the Chaville Vélizy or the Jouy en Josas RER C train station: The bus station is next to the train station; catch the PHEBUS line "N" and stop at "CENTRE D'AFFAIRE DU PETIT ROBINSON".
